Find the Best Cosmetology Schools

If you want to become a cosmetologist, you can attend a cosmetology school or a beauty school.  Cosmetology schools are institutions that teach you how to provide professional beauty treatments.  Cosmetology students have to study seriously.  They will learn about cutting and styling hair, giving facials, chemical coloring, perming, and a lot more.

Some cosmetology schools offer a general curriculum program while others place greater emphasis on a particular specialty such as skin care or nail technology.  The best cosmetology schools will prepare you to work in the real world by providing plenty of practical, hands-on experience.

The best cosmetology schools prepare their students to acquire a cosmetology license and become professional cosmetologists, hairdressers, nail technicians and the like.  Professional cosmetologists can work in beauty salons, barber shops, retail stores, wellness clinics or resorts.

A typical course in cosmetology schools ranges from 1,200 to 2,100 hours.  A general curriculum program at reputable cosmetology schools includes education in CPR and first aid, chemistry, nutrition, anatomy and physiology.  Students may also receive supplementary training in business issues and client communications skills.

A complete course in cosmetology takes 10 to 12 months.  Tuition depends on the cosmetology school, and can be from $2,500 to $8.000.  Many cosmetology schools offer scholarship grants and financial aid to deserving students who require financial assistance with their tuition fees.

Hands-on training is part and parcel of a cosmetology course.  Students learn how to use all types of tools such scissors, razors, curling irons, rollers, etc.  They also learn how to do facials, manicures, waxing, and scalp treatments.

The cosmetology school you attend must be accredited, meaning it meets national standards for educational performance.  Most important, accredited schools are eligible to participate in the government’s student financial assistance programs.  There are several accrediting agencies, including the NACCAS or National Accrediting Commission for Cosmetology Arts and Sciences.  To qualify for the best cosmetology jobs, you should attend an accredited school.

Once you have completed your course in cosmetology, you will have to take the state board or licensing exam.  You need a cosmetology license to practice your profession legally.  The licensing exam consists of written tests and practical tests.  A license is valid for 2 to 4 years, after which it has to be renewed.  Your state may require continuing education for cosmetologists.  In that case, you may want to take additional classes at a community college and earn credits towards an associate’s degree.

Invest in your future and find an accredited cosmetology school in your area.  This is your ticket to a rich and rewarding career as a professional cosmetologist.
