Cosmetology School Incorporates Redken Philosophy

Cosmetology school practice age old principles in style, but most implement contemporary elements of professional cosmetology production into the curriculum. Under new ownership, one cosmetology school is renovating the curriculum with coursework from Redken.

Hi-Desert Star – The Elite Cosmetology School is under new ownership and management. Four partners, brothers Maurice and Michael Di Virgilio with Jodi Hussey and Nicole Vitez, bought the school and brought in Redken as a sponsor.

The new owners have worked with Redken, an international beauty-industry corporation, for many years. “The affiliation brings the Redken philosophy, superior products, advanced training techniques and international brand recognition,” Hussey said.

The new owners bought the business from Holly Griffin and Lucinda Cox, who owned it for about four years. Since taking over March 1, they have been busy implementing the Redken philosophy. “Our goal is to produce a more well-rounded student with a thorough knowledge of professional products,” Hussey said.

One change to the curriculum is a business development course, where students learn the business side of running a salon. “We want to do more than just get our students ready for the state board examination; we want to make them salon ready and give them the tools to succeed in the long-run,” Maurice Di Virgilio said.

“We were looking for an accredited school to purchase. I was stationed here 25 years ago as a Marine and that connection plus the school’s qualifications brought us here. We plan to make a success of the school by teaching at a high professional level and will eventually open up schools all around the country.”
